AP reports Marlon Brando has died.
I came to know Brando through later performances. Nevertheless, a single character can permanently imprint an actor in one's mind. To me, Brando will always be the just scientist Jor-El, father of the would-be Superman.

Oh Gerald, no he is the Godfather or the boxer in Street Car Named Desire or Kurtz in Apocalypse Now ( The horror of it)....what he really was, one of finest actors.
Apocalypse Now, the Godfather, On the Waterfront, the man could flat out act.
I'd like to be sadder about Brando's death. And I probably would be if I knew what caused it, apart from old age and chronic gluttony. Yeah, he was great. For a time. Apocalypse Now, I think, was more a case of luck than anything else. And Sheen's performance is a lot better. The Godfather? I've never been a big fan of it - even though Sterling Hayden was fantastic. On The Waterfront, Streetcar Named Desire and his more obscure movies, yeah.
Superman. Honestly, Gerald... Shame on you.
I'll admit I have some catching up to do. To this point, books have engaged me more than movies. As a Superman fan, though, I remember Brando as Jor-El fondly, like Sir Alec Guiness as Obi-Wan Kenobi.
