On Tom Selleck's 62nd birthday I'm glancing at this graphic from EW.com's Popwatch Blog, and McConaughey (left) seems a decent rumored choice to play Magnum. I doubt the rumor because of its casting similarities to Sahara.
McConaughey doesn't have exactly the same vibe as Selleck, but I can see him playing Magnum's good-natured, fun-loving side that could easily slide into cool under pressure.
I'm against remakes and updates, but since no movie people seem to be with me on this, they could do worse than McConaughey.

Personally, I think MM is a bad choice, I think he simply lacks the on-screen charisma needed.
