I closed Wednesday's post saying I would support President Trump as I would have supported President Clinton because I support America. I support America's ideals, having the capacity to extend to all humanity. I don't condone every American's attitudes or behavior.
I can't make it to every protest or donate to every cause I'd like, so my gentleness protests violence. My self-knowledge protests ignorance. My self-restraint protests rashness. My approachability protests racism. My respect protests disrespect. My honesty protests deceit. My fairness protests injustice. My calm protests anger. My courage protests fear...

Citizen So

I opposed Donald Trump's presidential campaign throughout. I thought he showed none of the dignity I expect from the presidency, and I worried what that would mean on the world stage.
That said, as a good citizen, I accept the election results, surprised as I was. I thought Trump's acceptance speech was appropriately sober, humble, and gracious. Once elected, a candidate goes from representing himself to representing the country, and Trump's change of tone seemed to acknowledge that.
I will support President Trump as I would have supported President Clinton because I support America. Good luck to us all.
