National Grammar Day

Today is National Grammar Day, and I am a loyal disciple. Know it. Use it. Love it.

"Grammar is an energy field created by all living things. It surrounds us and penetrates us. It binds the galaxy together."

Explain to me the difference between... and the hyphen.

The hyphen joins two words or a prefix to a word: writer-director, co-pilot, model-slash-actress.

The ellipsis is for sentences that trail off: "Little did he know..." or to condense quoted material: "Among the guests were...Donald Trump and Warren Buffett."

The dash or m-dash in fiction is for sudden interruption: "What the--?"
