I dislike wind, but I'm thankful we're not getting rain along with wind on Long Island today. After fearing for my mother's health during Lent, I'm thankful she's still with us. Despite her improvement, I'm aware she could pass anytime, just as she could've succumbed to any number of past ailments. No one can say precisely how long life will last. That nakes me all the more thankful for it.

Season's Meaning
© by Gerald So | 4:30 AM
As I was preparing for Lent, my mother developed serious shortness of breath. I was afraid she wouldn't survive last weekend. Vaccinated and boosted, fortunately she did and has slowly improved each day since. Extended family from New Jersey, Florida, and Seattle have come to help care for her. My brother and I also pre-planned her funeral with the time we got.
My mother gave up her career as a pediatric surgeon to raise us while our father continued working to provide for us until he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 1995. With successful surgery he lived five-and-a-half years more. I'm grateful my mother has similarly gotten more time and that all of us are able to give of ourselves to help her recover.
Like the pandemic in 2020 and '21, this episode clearly shows me the meaning of sacrifice.

REACHER Reaches Its Potential
© by Gerald So | 6:00 AM
I binged the full eight-episode season of REACHER on Prime Video yesterday, an excellent adaptation of the first Reacher book, KILLING FLOOR. Reacher could become Alan Ritchson's signature role, but the show's supporting cast is just as memorable and brings the show up a notch with storylines of their own. Reacher being a wanderer, future seasons will also be judged on the strength of the chosen story and supporting actors.
In terms of pure action, REACHER is reminiscent of unrepentantly bloody 1980s movies, fitting as Reacher would've been played by Arnold Schwarzenegger then. I do have some plausibility bones to pick, but I'll do that sometime later on Twitter.
