Home Opener

The last season at the current Yankee Stadium begins this afternoon with a game against the Toronto Blue Jays. I can't be there, but my friend John Ricotta is going to three games this week.

John (center), with his bandmate Andrew D'Amato, and me in a Stadium luxury box for John's bachelor party, August 9, 2003. With Andy Pettitte opposing Gil Meche, the Mariners beat the Yanks, 2-1.

UPDATE (2:30 PM): Due to rain, today's game will be made up tomorrow night.

Sorry, but it's the year of the Tigers. We need it more than you do.

No argument, Patti. The Tigers were my second favorite team until they got Gary Sheffield. I was hoping they'd do better in the 2006 World Series.

(I liked the Yankees a little less when we had Sheffield. I don't much like Giambi or A-Rod, either.)

Let's hope the Yanks show the old stadium out in style. With Joey G. at the helm, I'm confident it will be another great year in the Bronx.
